The name stayed the same but since 1976 the shop was owned by George McMillan who has been at the heart of wee toon life for ever. Before he started selling newspapers George was a butcher, Royal Marine, miner and chip shop owner.
He also was an active politician from 1957 representing Campbeltown on the many incarnations of local government: burgh council, county council, district council, regional council and unitary authority; he was also a JP for more than 30 years.
The shop was a business, George's ever-open councillor's surgery and an excellent place to have a blether.
The Courier will be featuring George's story in much more detail soon.
This is just to wish you a happy retirement George on behalf of the Campbeltown.
