Around 500 people, mainly locals but also visitors to Inveraray, gathered on the Cross Green on Saturday, August 31, to support and congratulate the newly-crowned World Pipe Band Champions, Inveraray and District.
The band showed off the silverware they won during the season, including the trophies won at the World Pipe Band Championships on August 17, where they were also crowned Champion of Champions, which was proudly carried by several local youngsters.
After playing a few tunes on the green the band and the large crowd proceeded up the Main Street to the Glenaray and Inveraray Parish Church.
Once they arrived at the front of the church, the band delighted the audience with a selection of their World Championship-winning tunes.
After they finished, they played Scotland The Brave and The Rowan Tree while marching in single file into The George Hotel where many bemused but delighted visitors were having dinner.
The band moved on through to the Garden Bar where The George, which has sponsored the band since day one, laid on food and drinks for the band members.
Provost Douglas Philand was in attendance and on behalf of Argyll and Bute Council congratulated Pipe Major Stuart Liddell and the rest of the band for once again winning the World Championships. The band previously won the “Worlds” in 2017 and 2019.
Stuart then cut a celebration cake which was made for the occasion and said a few words.
He thanked all the band members for their dedication and hard work throughout the season. He also thanked all those in the background who see to the logistics and administrative side of things.
He went on to thank the sponsors and particularly the Argyll based ones -The George Hotel and CRF Hydro Power.
And finally, he thanked all the locals and everyone else who turned up on the night to show their support.
Inveraray and District Pipe Band will celebrate its 20th Anniversary in 2025 and plans are already underway for a special event to mark this.
