Alvance British Aluminium cast their net over staff and their relatives last Saturday when hosting a Family Fun Day at the Fort William Shinty Club.
Despite a tremendous amount of rain, even by Lochaber standards, on the run-up to the event the puddles on the pitch proved a great attraction and only added to the amusement of the younger children in attendance.
Much to the relief of more than 160 people who attended, the sun did shine for the event itself which included five-a-side football, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, which gave children a tour of the fire engine, axe and spear throwing by the Wild Highland Outdoor Centre, bouncy castle and slide by AABA, wood fired pizzas by G’s Pizza Box Mobile Takeaway, a barbecue by Farmstead Fayre, and sweet graze boxes from Bloom and Graze, as well as face painting and other fun activities for all to enjoy.
Tom Uppington, managing director of Alvance British Aluminium said: 'It was fantastic to be able to bring staff together with their families for a great day enjoyed by all.
'We are delighted that in addition to the fun had by staff and their families, that we are also able to support local charities.
'We were overwhelmed by the generosity of businesses who supported the raffle and a big thank you to them for their continued support.
'A shout out also to our social committee who come together to organise these social and fundraising events, as well as sponsorships. We look forward to planning the next one.'
In addition to the attractions, there was also a raffle in aid of Care Lochaber, a brilliant charity that helps provide transport to those in need. Around 50 local businesses donated extremely generous prizes to help raise an impressive £1,986 for charity. There were a lot of big smiles from the variety of hampers, vouchers and iPad that were won, but the most sought after prize by staff was winning an extra day to their annual leave.
