"A thoroughly unfortunate incident" is how Sheriff Euan Cameron described the case when a 29-year-old man appeared before him at the December sitting of the Campbeltown court last week.
In the dock was Craig Cunningham, of Craigie Road, Hurlford, who pleaded guilty to shouting swearing and acting in an aggressive manner towards is ex-partner and repeatedly calling her names.
This took place at an address in Tarbert between June 14 and 15 this year.
The court heard how Cunningham travelled with his mother to Tarbert Loch Fyne to visit his children; the relationship with their mother having ended.
"The accused was under the influence of alcohol," said procurator fiscal depute Raeesa Ahmed.
And Cunningham’s defence agent told the sheriff: "He would not be here sitting in the dock before you if the whole thing had been handled better."
Sheriff Cameron said that Cunningham’s behaviour that night was "uncharacteristic" and fined him £350 with a victim surcharge of £20.
He also made a non-harassment order against Cunningham contacting his former partner for one year.
"You were consuming Buckfast on the way up to see your kids. What was going on in your mind?" Sheriff Cameron said.
