Acharacle cottage The Seashell has been included in a new national ‘Showcase Collection’ of rural hideaways for holidaymakers heading to RSPB nature reserves.
The two-person turf-roofed property on the shores of Loch Sunart sits less than two miles from RSPB Glenborrodale on the Ardnamurchan peninsula, where a mix of woodland, upland and coastal habitats has played home to around 130 species of birds.
Ornithological highlights in the area include wood warblers, redstarts, spotted flycatchers, sea eagles, and hen harriers.
Pine martens, wildcats, otters, and minke whales can also be seen nearby, while 634 species of flowering plant have been recorded in the reserve.
The Showcase Collection, curated by RSPB and holidaycottages.co.uk, was launched on May 1 and seeks to aid conservation as well as promote the properties.
Each booking made at a collection property will see the website restore one square metre of British woodland.
Dave Bloor, head of corporate partnerships at RSPB, said that the Showcase Collection allowed holidaymakers to feel confident their vacations were supporting the UK’s natural spaces.
“We hope the collection inspires more people to explore the outdoors by becoming RSPB members and discovering the unique reserves situated on the doorstep of the properties featured,” he said.
“Whether you’re seeking outdoor activities which are fun for all the family, chasing incredible views on hikes with friends, or taking a solo trip to spot rare wildlife in the heart of nature, there’s something for everyone.”
Other members of the collection include properties in the Lake District, New Forest, and the Welsh Cambrian Mountains.
