Staff initially set the goal of reaching 10,000 steps each day throughout March, with the company donating money based on the total number of steps achieved across the month.
However, due to the site size and nature of their work, some staff opted to raise their personal targets from 10,000 steps to 30,000.
This effort was complemented by a bake sale in May. Across the two events a total of £1,600 was raised, with the money presented to Connecting Young Carers in June.
Connecting Young Carers helps raise the profile and rights of young carers - children and young people who take on a caring role, often for a family member.
A Scottish Government report in 2013 estimated that Scotland had 29,000 young carers, equal to roughly four per cent of the under 16 population.
On receiving the donation, Sophie Fyfe, Young Carer Community Worker for Lochaber, commented: “The funds raised for Connecting Young Carers, Lochaber, will go directly to providing respite opportunities and enjoyable social group activities for all young carers aged between 5 and 24.
"The support of Alvance British Aluminium staff will make such a huge difference directly to the health and wellbeing of our young carers. Thank you all very much!”
