A tailback of more than 300 vehicles had built up behind a pair of large transporters carrying two giant dump trucks by the time the convoy made its way into Fort William shortly after 4pm today (Tuesday August 29).
The vehicles were being transported from the Glensanda Quarry, near Oban, heading towards the A9.
There had been concern expressed that transporting the massive vehicles during the busiest time of the day would only exacerbate the already problematic summer traffic congestion.
A82 Partnership spokesman Stewart MacLean said: 'There was congestion for more than two hours on the by-pass after the trucks passed through the town and our information is that there are to be two more trucks transported on Friday and another one on Monday.
Mr MacLean is also angry at what he claims was shabby treatment by Police Scotland's abnormal loads team in Glenrothes.
He said: 'I am very disappointed that the police's abnormal loads staff would not accept our telephone calls about this particular load and will be taking the matter up with senior officers.'
