Kintyre Angling Club’s 2025 competition season is off to a flying start.
It was a cold and windy day at Lussa Loch on Saturday March 15 for the club’s annual opening day competition.
The weather, combined with the extremely low water level for the time of year, meant conditions were very challenging, however, a few fish were landed.
Result: Reid Anderson - 1 rainbow, 2lb 8oz; Graham Paterson - 1 rainbow, 2lb 14oz; Archie McCallum - 2 rainbows, 5lb 11oz; John Macdonald - 3 rainbows; 6lb 12oz; John McCallum - 4 rainbows, 8lb 15oz.
The early front runner in the heaviest rainbow for the season is Archie McCallum with a fine fish weighing 3lb 1oz.
And, with a fine bag of rainbows, John McCallum took the win in the first competition of the season.
Anglers were back in action last weekend, competing for the Neil Brown Memorial Shield on Sunday.
The competition was supposed to take place at Lussa Loch but water levels are very low there and it was decided it would not be safe to hold the competition there, so the decision was taken to have it at Auchalochy/Lochruan, rather than postpone or cancel the event.
A cold north wind combined with the change in location resulted in a very hard day for the anglers, with only one rainbow landed.
Matt Blanchflower, who landed the fish which weighed in at 2lb 9oz, was the day’s winner.
