Applications are now open for people aged 16 to 25 to get experience performing live as part of a six-piece band on tour.

Argyll Cèilidh Trail is a development opportunity run by Oban-based voluntary community organisation Fèis Latharna and musicians wanting to audition for the chance have until Friday March 29 to put themselves forward.

Auditions will be on Saturday April 13.

Successful applicants will head out on a four-week tour with the newly formed group, playing throughout Argyll and the Islands during July and August.

Audiences can expect to hear sets comprising Gaelic songs from the area and tunes, many of which have been put together by the young musicians with the guidance and advice of expert tutors.

The participants attend training weekends organised by Fèis Latharna and a week-long training with members of other Cèilidh Trails at Fèis Alba in Plockton, organised by Fèisean nan Gàidheal.

Cèilidh Trail co-ordinator and former participant of the trail Rachel Campbell said: “Having been part
of the Cèilidh Trail myself and having co-ordinated last year’s tour, it’s very exciting to be back working
with younger musicians to co-ordinate this year’s tour.

"We’ll be bringing top quality live music to communities across Argyll.

"We have a busy and varied tour lined up from playing at Highland Games to village halls, and hope many people will be able to come out and support great live music performed by an extremely talented group of local, young musicians.”

Fèis Latharna is grateful for generous support provided through Fèisean nan Gàidheal (from the Scottish Government, Creative Scotland, Bòrd na Gàidhlig, Argyll & Bute Council and William Grant Foundation, as well as The Rotary Club of Oban, Argyll and Bute Trust and Eilidh MacLeod Memorial Trust in order to deliver Argyll Cèilidh Trail.
