Created by Imaginarium Design, producers of the award winning Time Trap Escape Rooms, and the Inveraray Jail team, this meticulously designed attraction is set on the second floor of the courthouse. An exciting blend of historical reality and stimulating challenges promises an unforgettable experience for history buffs, puzzle enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike.
Whether it’s cracking codes with family, deciphering clues with pals, or unravelling mysteries with co-workers, ‘The Debtors of 1850’ Escape Room at Inveraray Jail offers a unique opportunity for growth and connection.
Research shows that engaging in activities like escape rooms has a positive impact on communication skills, overall happiness and well-being. Overcoming challenges and successfully completing tasks not only thrill, but also strengthen relationships and foster a sense of accomplishment. Plus it’s just so much fun!
Envelop yourself in the world of the 1850’s
“We’re very keen on authenticity here at the Jail, so when we had the idea of doing an escape room set in the mid 1800s, we wanted to ensure that the authenticity was there, as well,” said Governor of Inveraray Jail, Gavin Dick.
“The characters that are involved are real people from the time of the Jail in days gone by and the challenges are inspired by real features and occurrences taken from our rich history.”
From the moment you enter the Debtors Prison, you are enveloped in the world of the 1850s. Every detail, from the historic decor to the period-specific puzzles, has been carefully crafted to offer a completely unique, immersive and interactive experience that not only entertains, but also educates. It’s an opportunity to live a day in the life of a debtor prisoner and understand the challenges they faced, all while engaging in an exhilarating race to freedom.
Crack the codes!
Designed for private teams of two to six people, players step into the shoes of 19th-century inmates desperately trying to gather the money to pay off their debt. By using wits, teamwork, deductive reasoning, problem-solving skills (and a bit of light physical activity) you uncover clues, solve a series of puzzles and crack codes to ultimately win your freedom. But will your flair and fortitude, as well as a little help from other characters in the prison, see you make good what you owe and be released before the gate is locked for the night?
“If you like puzzles or quizzes, this will definitely appeal to you, but it is designed so that anyone will have a good time. We can even provide clues, if required," Gavin shared. “The Escape Room takes about 90 minutes to an hour of problem solving, with about 15 minutes for briefing beforehand and 15 minutes afterwards for photos and a debriefing. You can combine the experience with a tour of Inveraray Jail, or just book the Escape Room.”
Belly laughs and ’a-ha!’ moments
‘The Debtors of 1850’ is perfect for couples or a group of friends, family or colleagues. Together, you’ll escape from the ordinary, as you reconnect and enjoy real life laughs. From those ‘a-ha’ moments to the rush for the final coin, this shared adventure will strengthen bonds and create lasting memories.
Players must be at least age eight, and an adult must accompany players under 17. At least one member of each group must be able to crawl on their hands and knees. Each experience is exclusive to just you and your group.
