Representatives from Carers Gateway on Arran joined with carers from around the UK who hosted information and support events on Carers Rights Day.
The event, held at Brodick Library on Carers Rights Day on Thursday November 21, was hosted by Arran family support worker Sheena Morrison and Carers Gateway service manager David Cooke.
Similar events also took place in Irvine, Kilwinning, Largs and Stevenston in north Ayrshire. The focus of the events was on "recognising your rights" as a carer, along with information, guidance and support for carers on understanding and accessing the support and benefits they are entitled to.
Among some of the rights enshrined in the Carers Act (2016) are: the right to unpaid carer’s leave; the right to request flexible working; the right to ask your GP practice to identify you as a carer; the right and choice to request a free flu jab; protection against discrimination or harassment; requesting a carers assessment and being consulted when the person you care for is discharged from hospital.
"As a carer, knowing your rights is empowering and ensures you can get the help you need," said David Cooke. “Our aim is to make carers aware of their legal entitlements, from unpaid leave to requesting a carer’s assessment.
"Every day, unpaid carers make incredible sacrifices to support their loved ones. Carers Rights Day is about empowering them with the knowledge and resources they need to take care of themselves as well."
It is estimated that around 800,000 carers give their time and energy to care for loved ones in Scotland. Carers Gateway North Ayrshire has provided support for carers in north and south Ayrshire for more than 20 years as part of Unity, a Scottish charity and social enterprise.
