Arran Rugby Club’s first ’international’ tour in 20 years saw the team cross the border into England to take on Billingham RFC.
Former Arran resident Dave Hill, who is actively involved with Billingham RFC, ensured the Arran lads received a warm welcome.
As a result of injuries and last minute call-offs, the club travelled with depleted numbers, however, everyone performed well on and off the pitch, coming out on the wrong side of a 36-26 match-up, despite leading throughout the first half.
The second half was a different story with Billingham having 13 replacements to Arran’s three, meaning the odds were stacked in the home side’s favour.
After the game, both teams retired to the clubhouse to watch a strong Scottish performance as they retained the Calcutta Cup - and a continuation of social activities.
A club spokesperson told West Coast Today: “It was a great weekend for the club and we extend our thanks to Billingham RFC and David Hill for making it possible.
"We look forward to seeing them in the summer at the annual rugby sevens which will be held this year on June 8.”
