The award of long-service medals to no fewer than three members of the Campbeltown firefighting team has been highlighted at the Scottish Parliament.
Stuart McTaggart, Stevie Gorman and Grant Macpherson recently received ‘long service and good conduct’ medals from Area Commander Joe McKay in recognition of each dedicating more than 20 years’ service to Campbeltown Fire Station.
Highlands and Islands MSP Tim Eagle, who proposed a motion congratulating the firefighters on their awards, said: “This kind of service to the community deserves to be recognised and I was very pleased to have the opportunity to sponsor a motion in order to give the parliament an opportunity to show its appreciation.
“Our communities, particularly relatively remote ones like Campbeltown, are absolutely dependent on local people stepping up and taking on demanding roles like that of firefighting.
“Well done to Stuart, Stevie and Grant and I hope their example inspires others who may be considering joining their own local fire service.”
