This month kicked off with the 15th Hope2Oban Lock-In, hosted by Atlantis. The Lock-In sees the entire Oban High School S1 year-group invited to Atlantis to take part in a through-the-night fundraiser.
This year saw 15 Atlantis staff lead a brilliant group of S1s through a packed programme of sports, pool activities, board games, arts and crafts and even a haunted house.
This was our last major event with Dani Skaines from H2O. Dani leaves Oban at the end of the year to continue her academic studies and we wish her all the best. Thank you to everyone else that brought the night together, we had a blast.
This month saw around 20 staff members take part in a Les Mills facilitated product knowledge training session which also included an edition of the very useful Good to Great training.
The sessions were held at Atlantis and were attended by a wide range of staff from various aspects of the business including reception, fitness instructors, gym staff and managers.
We currently have four casual staff team members investigating our latest full-time opportunity. We’re struck by the high standard of applications - they’ve each given us something of a difficult task choosing between them. All the very best to everyone as the process continues.
We were delighted to sponsor Mark Welsh to attain his pool lifeguard qualification in Glasgow this month. It’s great to have him back at Atlantis having already made such a valuable contribution to the team over the past 10 years. Mark’s experience and unique skillset will be particularly helpful in the delivery of our StayActive programme.
Elsewhere, it’s numbers time for our management team as they busy themselves with the sums and figures involved in working out next year’s budget. It’s a big job but essential to the responsible and efficient running of a charity.
The Dance Studio is undergoing a rebrand to better reflect the jam-packed programme of activities it hosts – look out for the new signs in the coming weeks.
We try to offer as many opportunities as we can to gather your ideas for Atlantis – so please do keep them coming. It helps us run the centre in a way that better meets our community’s needs.
It’s all very chilled in the café now with Beth taking delivery of a fancy new display fridge. The fridge helps Beth with the storing and display of her tasty salads and other healthy options. Come take a look next time you’re in.
Our faithful website has worked hard for us over the past few years but we all know how quickly the world of technology moves on. We’re working hard to upgrade the website to be much more mobile and user friendly with various new features that will make your visit easier.
It’s also a good opportunity to freshen up the website’s look and feel. We’ll keep you posted but eyes peeled for Atlantis’ new digital homecoming soon.
This month Atlantis hosted a StayActive Group Forum alongside the team at Healthy Options.
This was an event to continue gathering the group’s thoughts and ideas as to how we can better support them. The group were a huge help, coming up with a number of ideas that will benefit StayActive both now and as it continues to grow.
We’re so grateful for the continued support from our friends at Oban Rotary. This year, the Rotary have decided to support Atlantis in the improvement of staff training. Their support is to have a particular focus on creating more opportunities for our younger staff members to develop the realisation of their potential. Atlantis runs on community support and without partners like the Rotary things would be very different – thank you very much to them and all our partners.
