Budding young photographers make their mark

A photograph submitted to the Rotary Club of Campbeltown's Young Photographer of the Year competition has made it to the national finals.

 

Budding young photographers were invited to submit a portfolio of three wild nature-themed images across three categories – junior: seven to 10-year-olds; intermediate: 11 to 13-year-olds; and senior: 14 to 17-year-olds.

 

It was a shot of ringed plover, submitted by Josh Owens in the intermediate category, that was awarded first place at the district final and has now been put forward for the competition's national final.

 

The winning entries in Campbeltown's junior and senior sections also did very well at the district final, with Teigan Read-Edwards's shot of a butterfly taking second place in the junior section, and Iona Renton's image of a rainbow placing second in the senior event.

 

 

As well as having their submissions put forward for the district final, the three category winners received a voucher for a day course with Loch Visions of Ardfern to hone their digital photography skills.

 

A Rotary Club of Campbeltown spokesperson said: 'A big congratulations goes to those three; judging was not a walk in the park – the quality was so very good. So well done all and thank you for participating.'

 

Plans are in place for an exhibition of the entries at Campbeltown Picture House when it reopens this weekend, with a follow-up event in the coming weeks, subject to Covid-19 regulations.
