Like many in the community, Courier staff were shocked and deeply saddened to learn this week of the death of author Denzil Meyrick.
Despite becoming one of Scotland’s bestselling crime writers, Denzil never forgot his roots, maintaining a strong connection with the town where he was raised and where he still had many friends.
He was also a good friend to the Courier and never declined a chat on the phone or in person, although his local newspaper was up against many, much bigger publications in seeking interviews with him.
Denzil always championed Campbeltown, putting it well and truly on the map as the inspiration for the fictional Kinloch, where his multi-million selling DCI Daley series is set.
He also brought other bestselling Scottish authors to Campbeltown, which may, as a small town, otherwise not have made it onto busy tour schedules.
His loss will no doubt be felt immensely by his family, friends and fans in Campbeltown and around the world, and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
