There has been some discussion on social media about this year’s Mull of Kintyre Music Festival parade and how it compares with previous processions.
Photographs of vast and varied parades packed with colourful costumes and carnival-themed floats have reminded people of the event’s heyday.
Some have levelled their criticism about this at the festival organisers and, while they do have more health and safety and risk assessment regulations to contend with these days, there also seems to be a of lack enthusiasm from members of the community about getting involved.
Alongside the comments about the parade, there was also a huge amount of praise for the festival as a whole, with the quality of musicianship and friendly atmosphere among people’s highlights.
Festival organisers say the event’s annual gross value to the community is £2.34 million, with more than 50 per cent of ticket sales come from outwith Argyll, and 20 per cent from abroad.
The festival is clearly already a success story but perhaps the people with strong opinions on how the parade could be improved should put themselves forward to boost next year’s event, either as an organiser or participant.
