Donna Mallan of Scottish Canals said: 'We were delighted to present Mid Argyll Youth Development Services (MAYDS) with a cheque to help their work in supporting vulnerable families at Christmas.'
Fiona Kalache, from MAYDS, said: 'We were delighted and very thankful to receive this generous sum from Scottish Canals, which will help MAYDS to support families in Mid Argyll in need this Christmas.
'This money will go directly back into the community, for example through shopping vouchers, to make things easier for people feeling vulnerable, especially at this time of year.'
Ms Mallan also spoke about the canal body's plan to distribute further funds to groups and charities in Mid Argyll.
She added: 'Many people in the community have asked what Scottish Canals is doing with funds raised from stall holder pitches during Waverley visits, and other market events, held in Pier Square this year.
'The market has now moved on to Ardrishaig Village Hall for trading, but should Scottish Canals hold any future events, it is hoped any funds collected will continue to support a charity or community group in the area.'
