Christmas may not be high in many people’s thoughts in mid-July but it is never far from the minds of the dedicated members of the Campbeltown Christmas Lights committee.
The annual illumination of the town’s festive lights typically takes place on the final Friday of November but, this year, the date is being brought forward to Friday November 22 to avoid clashing with a special one-off community event.
On November 29 and 30, Campbeltown Grammar School will host two shows, titled ‘Every Picture Tells a Story’, to celebrate 50 years since James McCorkindale began teaching Highland dance in October 1974.
James, who runs the James McCorkindale School of Dancing, said: “I am sincerely grateful to the Christmas lights committee for agreeing to make the date change.”
A lights committee spokesperson said: “Apologies to anyone that has already made plans for our usual date.”
The lights committee has liaised with Springbank Distillery to ensure Campbeltown Christmas Market, which traditionally takes place in the distillery’s malt barns the Sunday after the lights switch-on, is held the same weekend as the new date.
