As we remember the many acts of courage, kindness, and unselfish devotion to duty, especially in the delivery of services to the sick and vulnerable during the previous months, I would like to share with your readers something that has helped me and others to have the ability to focus on the road ahead: Invictus by William Henley.
The poem ends with the poet's assertion that we ourselves are the masters of our own fate: 'It matters not how strait the gate, how charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.'
Councillor Rory Colville, South Kintyre.

It has been a very trying time for us all over the last two years but, as usual, everyone in South Kintyre has pulled together to make it as easy as possible to endure the difficulties we have all had to face.
We should all be very proud of the kind and caring community that we live in, where every act of kindness has made a difference to someone.
I never tire of telling colleagues what a great community we live in and I would like to wish everyone a very happy Christmas and a prosperous and more normal 2022.
Councillor John Armour, South Kintyre.

In recent times we have seen the best of people at the very worst of times and it is heartening to see such strong community spirit and support.
I would like to wish everyone a very happy Christmas and a safe and peaceful New Year.
Stay safe, stay well, stay kind.
Councillor Anne Horn, Kintyre and the Islands.

It is important to remember and be thankful for the work and efforts of all who have helped us through these trying times.
This year has been a very different one for many of us, particularity for small business proprietors who are so often the backbone of our communities.
Throughout these months of uncertainty, our farmers, crofters and fishermen – a backbone of our local economy – have continued working as normal to help maintain supplies.
We can show our support for small and family businesses, as well as farmers, crofters and fishermen, by continuing to purchase locally-sourced goods wherever possible.
The vaccination roll-out has been a huge success, helped by an enthusiastic uptake from the public and our terrific frontline workers and volunteers, and this is a cause for great optimism.
As we enter into a new year, there is a lot to be positive about, including our economic growth, which has come roaring back, and I am sure that 2022 will be a much happier and prosperous year all round.
I would like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
Councillor Alastair Redman, Kintyre and the Islands.

This Christmas, my hope is that everyone in Argyll and Bute is able to enjoy themselves as much as possible.
It may sound simple but, after the challenges of the last couple of years, I don't think that any of us will ever take it for granted again!
Change is always a possibility in this new and always-moving situation that we are now dealing with. However, one thing that always remains constant across Argyll and Bute is the strong sense of community spirit.
That will stand us all in good stead as it has done in the past, whether in times of cheer and challenge.
I know that across all our communities there are people who will find the coming holidays very difficult, and my thoughts are very much with them at this time.
My wish for all of us is that we are able to make the very best of the festive season, and to look forward with hope to brighter times ahead.
May I wish everyone the best possible Christmas, and send them my best wishes for a peaceful, prosperous and healthy New Year.
Councillor Robin Currie, Kintyre and the Islands.
