After two years of Covid restrictions, rugby was finally back for Boxing Day at Banavie as players young and old took to the pitch for the traditional President's v Captain's match.
Players were piped onto the pitch by first team players Ally Weir and Ben Fulford before two teams lined up to pay their respects to Duncan MacPhee with a minute's applause.
Duncan was a former player and club president. He and his wife Rosemary are life members and were both actively involved with the club in the early years. At the club's 40th anniversary, it was Duncan who piped the two teams onto the pitch. His wife Rosemary and son and former Lochaber player Niall both attended the Boxing Day match.
The club again extends its condolences to Rosemary and family.
The game featured lots of free flowing attacking rugby. It was great to see some former retired players pull on their boots for a run around and even a player who had never played before joined in for the day. The club also welcomed a few old and young boys from Oban Rugby Football Club.
The game finished in a draw with players and supporters retiring to the clubhouse for refreshments.
Lochaber RFC is back in league action when they travel to Moffat on Saturday January 7 where they will be looking to keep its 100 per cent win record over Moffat. Kick-off 2pm.
