Co-op customers give town causes a boost

Three Campbeltown causes have shared in a funding boost of more than £18,000 from the Co-op's Local Community Fund.

 

Staff from the supermarket met representatives of Meadows Under Fives Nursery, The Hub and Core MMA Campbeltown last week to hand over cheques totalling £18,079.40.

 

The money is raised when Co-op members buy selected supermarket-branded products and is then donated to community group and charities of their choice in different rounds of funding.

 

Meadows Under Fives Nursery's £6,622.22 donation will fund the purchase of iPads for staff which will allow better communication with families, as well as iPads and interactive resources for children which will help develop early learning skills such as memory, concentration, multi-tasking, language development and social skills.

Youth support group The Hub will use its £6,023.97 funding to help give young carers a break, to buy craft kits and Christmas gifts for young people and hopefully, once restrictions are lifted, to fund trips away for the young people the charity supports.

Mixed martial arts club Core MMA Campbeltown, which received £5,433.21, will use its money to buy equipment and help towards purchasing its premises to build a legacy of martial arts for the community.

The group says the training the funding will help to fill a need in young people for activity and gives them a sense of achievement, family, discipline and commitment.
