Community Council Christmas messages

Oban

 

Oban Community Council convener Marri Malloy writes: 'We have come to the end of another difficult year. Most of the people in Oban have obeyed the rules and have kept our community safe from this dreadful virus.

 

Oban Comunity Council has had a very busy year supporting the community with any issues they have brought to our table.

 

Our latest project was when we found out there was no money for Christmas lights and we decided to try and help find some funding. We applied to Oban Common Good Fund who gave us £5,000. We also applied to West Highland Housing Association who very kindly donated £1,500, and Oban Community Council gave £2,000 of our own money.

 

With the support of the people of Oban we will thrive and work together with our local councillors to keep Oban  a safe and welcoming town to live in as it is now.

 

This only leaves me to thank my fellow community councillors for their loyalty and support this year.

 

Have a safe and wonderful Christmas with family and friends and have a prosperous New Year.

 

Hopefully 2022 will be a better one for everyone. StaY safe and look after each other.

Dunbeg

 

Convenor of Dunbeg Community Council Marion Power writes: 'Greetings from Dunbeg Community Council and welcome to all the new residents. The village has

 

several large building projects under way and the community council are in regular contact with the developers to minimise, as much as possible, disruption to the community.

 

Further developments are in the pipeline and we have two places on the Dunbeg Corridor Working Group which will enable us to have input and keep residents informed.

 

We also have a Public Access defibrillator installed and hope it doesn’t need to be used.

 

We hope you manage to have a lovely family festive season. Look after each other, Look out for each other, Wear a mask, wash your hands and above all, stay safe.

 

Next Community Council public meeting is Monday January 10 at 7.30pm in Dunbeg Church.

 

Kilninver and Kilmelford Community Council

 

Convener David Wilkie writes: 'Kilninver and Kilmelford Community Council have had another busy year, like most Community Councils much of it all happening 'behind the scenes'. On the practical side our Speed Cop was stolen but replaced by 'Boaby' who still causes strangers to slow down but is now ignored by the regulars - speeding remains a major issue through the village. We also installed two benches with support from Carraig Gheal Wind Farm which are much used by locals and tourists alike taking their exercise. We wish all our community a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!'

Seil

 

Despite the challenges faced in 2021 due to Covid the Community Council has continued to serve the community in many ways. The public meetings have been reasonably well attended by Zoom and the November meeting was held in person at the Seil Island Hall.

 

In the spring and summer months with the aid of two  small grants from Argyll and Bute Council, tubs of flowers were placed at Clachan, Balvicar, Cuan and Ellenabeich. Paint was purchased for a refurbishment of the Clachan bus shelter. Hampers for older members of the community and activities for the children. As the restrictions were lifted it was encouraging to see island life return with activities, such as family fun day, Seed for Life and the craft fair.

 

During the year and in particular now the weather is getting worse, the Community Council are actively involved in ensuring the fabric of the essential infrastructure which allows for the wellbeing of us all is being properly maintained. This includes the Kilniver Bridge, Clachan Bridge and the sea wall at Ellenabeich and the harbour at Easdale.

 

Road safety is a priority across many of the communities in our area and we are seeking to have speed monitors installed to collect data to support our local speed control measures before the busy season resumes in the spring.

 

Seil and Easdale Community Council would like to wish our communities and stakeholders a Peaceful Christmas and a Good New Year.

Glenorchy & Innishail Community Council

 

Convener John Kerr writes: 'Glenorchy & Innishail Community Council would like to wish our wonderful community a very Merry Christmas, all the best for 2022 and thank them for all their extremely helpful efforts during a difficult two years!

 

In 2020 G & I CC raised and distributed Corona Virus Community Emergency Funding and in 2021 went on to offer financial support to several local groups from outdoor fitness classes and book clubs to feeding red squirrels.

 

We are particularly pleased to have supported the ongoing restoration of St Conan’s Kirk in Lochawe and some of their enterprising events. We have been part of a Community Action Plan Group that developed and produced an outstanding Action Plan and the group is now recruiting a co-ordinator to develop the themes that the plan has identified.

 

G&I CC continues to support the communities strong objection the SSEN proposals to build a huge overhead transmission line, oversailing the sensitive environment around Dalmally and Loch Awe. All this with only two public meetings in 24 months! We’ve pulled together and helped each other, as you do in Scotland! There may still be some hurdles to cross, but with the enthusiasm of the local population, the community can progress and fulfil the aspirations of the implementation of our Community Action Plan.'
