Arran is rallying as it prepares for the arrival of Storm Eowyn from 10am tomorrow.
The front is predicted to be the strongest storm in generations prompting schools across North Ayrshire to close, CalMac to cancel all sailings and ScotRail to suspend all of its train services.
As Arran residents and businesses prepare to batten down the hatches and stay at home, a number of people are volunteering their support.
Christopher Traill, director at Lochranza Outdoor Education and Activity Centre, is offering to provide campers shelter free of charge.
He said: “Tonight is not the night to be without a sturdy roof over your head. If you see or know anyone planning to camp, we can provide them with shelter for this evening and through tomorrow at Lochranza Centre CIC free of charge."
Campers can reach Christopher on 01770 830 637.
Lamlash Holiday Lets has also offered its self-catering two-bed accommodation, which is set up with one super king bed and two single beds, to those in need. The business has put a message out to business owners who have staff in need of accommodation or anyone on the island with vulnerable family members who may be stranded or in unsafe accommodations. They can be reached on 07568 085878.
It’s not just accommodation that’s on offer as locals also look to reach out.
Tim Watt, a Bennan-based handyman and joiner, has offered to help anyone who needs assistance repairing damage or is without power as a result of the storm.
Tim has a pick-up truck that allows him to access hard-to-reach areas of the island and various equipment for repair works. He can be reached on 07875 370296.
