The Corran Ferry service tweeted at 7am today (August 22): "The passenger service from Ardgour to Nether Lochaber is currently suspended due to breakdown. I will update you when it resumes. The Fort William passenger service is working as normal."
Later this morning, it updated: "We are working on getting the passenger service between the narrows up and running this afternoon.....we will inform you when it resumes."
The 48-year-old back-up ferry, MV Maid of Glencoul, was left running Scotland’s busiest single vessel route since October, when the larger 22-year-old ferry, MV Corran, departed for its annual overhaul in October and never returned.
Following the third failure of the Maid of Glencoul this year on August 15, with repairs and the return of the MV Corran not expected for "several weeks", The Highland Council introduced contingency measures, including two temporary passenger services.
One followed the route of the Corran Ferry between Ardgour and Nether Lochaber, and the second runs between Ardgour and Fort William.
