Fans of the Corrie’s Capers series of books showed their support for the latest release at its official launch at Arran Alpacas, Balmichael, on Sunday.
The event, hosted by author Alison Page and illustrator Tony van Breugel, attracted a large number of young and old followers.
Corrie’s Paper Capers is the fifth instalment in the series which raises funds for Mary’s Meals. The books have attracted a loyal following on and off the island.
Tony and Alison spoke to the fans and spent more than an hour signing and dedicating books for children, parents and grandparents.
Alison also read her book to the children who gathered around her to listen to the story and asked questions about Corrie and his new adventures.
Following the cutting of a cake and meeting the author and illustrator, families enjoyed everything Arran Alpacas has to offer including a playpark, mini football field, outdoor toys and games and, most enjoyed of all, feeding the alpacas.
Corrie’s Paper Capers follows in the footsteps of its predecessors by engaging young imaginations with modern, relevant topics – ferries, newspapers, libraries, sports, honesty and integrity – while embracing Scottish culture and traditions.
The book continues to be brought to life by well-respected illustrator Tony van Breugel who has supported the project for many years and whose work ranges from cartoons and maps to Robert Burns homages and his take on Dutch painter Hieronymous Bosch.
The latest instalment brings the series to five books: The Westie Fest, published in 2018; The Tattoo Toorie, July 2019; Corrie’s Curling Capers, September 2020; Corrie’s Library Capers, July 2022; and Corrie’s Paper Capers, July 2024.
Alison’s stories were inspired by her own pet westie and a desire to raise funds for Mary’s Meals which serves nutritious school meals to children living in some of the world’s poorest countries.
Proceeds from all book sales and merchandise covers the minimal production costs with the remainder donated to Mary’s Meals.
Prior to the publication of Corrie’s Paper Capers, the amount donated to the school feeding charity so far is an impressive £27,027.
Corrie’s Paper Capers and all of the other books in the series can be found at most island stores and can also be purchased online – along with book bags and posters – at www.westie.scot/
