As Argyll and Bute Council continues its consultation on a controversial visitor levy, and adds more public information events, a councillor has started a poll on social media to gauge support for the proposal - but so far more than 90 per cent of respondents are against it.
Five days into the online survey, asking ’Do you feel a visitor levy should be introduced in Argyll and Bute?’, almost 2,500 people had voted, with nine per cent saying ’Yes’, and 91 per cent saying ’No’.
Councillor Amanda Hampsey (Oban South and the Isles, Conservative) said she had launched the "straight to the point poll" at the request of constituents. She added it was not affiliated with the council’s consultation and it will remain open on her Facebook page.
Meanwhile the public are also being invited to have their say on the proposed visitor levy at sessions organised by the council over the next few weeks.
The council is running a formal consultation on the visitor levy on its website until April 10, during which time people are being urged to find out what it could mean for them and the area, and give their views.
The council is also hosting a series of information events in the form of drop-ins around Argyll or online webinars. To attend the webinars, which will last one hour, people will need to book a space in advance, via a link on the council’s website to www.ticketsource.co.uk/visitor-levy-argyll-and-bute-council.
