It has been busy since my last report and delighted to continue with the column.
I was present at a recent development day for Fyne Homes looking at the following years’ strategy with the obvious importance of supporting our current residents along with building new homes to assist with the declared housing emergency.
It is important that Argyll and Bute Council council works closely with all housing associations to ensure maximum development is undertaken.
It was a packed Lochgilphead Joint Campus for the annual prize giving ceremony.
It is always great to celebrate the achievements of our young people and the joy in their faces along with their parents is just so great to see.
I wish those leaving school for onwards destinations all the best with whatever career the pursue.
I attended a hustings meeting at the joint campus to see three of the parliamentary candidates give their views on climate change issues.
The hustings was organised by the Mid Argyll-based Time for Change group who are passionate about climate issues and the organisers are to be congratulated for an excellent evening.
It is that time of year where a number of events and festivals have taken place and it was great to see the support these events have had.
A couple of pictures firstly of the ACHA housing association staff present at the fun day in Lochgilphead.
They were promoting the work of the association and having fun at the same time.
I also attended the Kilmartin fun day and it was also well attended. Highlight of the day was the Mid Argyll Pipe Band who played on the green.
It is so encouraging to see so many young people in the band and wish them continued success for the future.
In my role as provost I was asked to give the closing remarks at the Tarbert Sea Food Festival.
It was a well organised weekend event with loads of stalls selling local produce and on the Sunday music was provided by a number bands enjoyed by a large crowd.
Lastly it was my privilege to attend the launch of the new Oban lifeboat the RNLB the Campbell-Watson Shannon class which is a state of the art vessel.
I must commend all the land and sea crew for their sheer dedication to saving lives in our seas and their enthusiasm to provide this life saving service.
