A small team of volunteers had a successful afternoon on Sunday, filling 10 bags of litter from Craignure’s streets.
The Craignure community clean-up was organised by Helen Windsor-McGrail, who was inspired by the wishes of her son Leo.
Leo, 10, said he had the idea after finding an old boot filled with trash tied to a bench on Craignure’s footpath.
"I want my home to be clean and perfect," he said.
After learning about the dangers microplastics pose to animals in school, he said he wanted to protect the animals as best he could, especially caterpillars, his favourites.
Mum Helen was determined to see her son’s idea through, contacting Mull and Iona Community Trust for the litter pickers she loaned out.
Craignure coffee shop Blethers even offered free coffee to any volunteers as part of the effort.
In just two hours of work, the small team managed to collect 43kgs of litter in the 10 bags.
Helen said: "It went better than I expected, and faster too!"
