Dad AJ sets the pace for helping hospital charity

Mull dad and social media influencer AJ Greenway has been running 5km every day in January to thank a hospital for helping his son beat a tumour at the back of his eye.

 

AJ, whose unique brand of Scottish humour and football comedy has won him more than 160,000 TikTok followers, is raising funds and awareness for the Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity.

He has already raised an amazing £1,670 - an impressive feat for the husband and father of two as he was not a runner and did no training before taking on the mission.

 

In November AJ's three-year-old son was diagnosed with a tumour behind his eye ball and has been through several serious operations so far.

 

AJ said: 'The operations have been painful and frightening for him but he has been so brave, and the hospital staff could not have been more amazing.

 

'I have experienced first-hand some of the great things this charity has done, such as providing beds for parents to sleep on in the hospital so they could be with their children through the nights.

 

'I would like to thank my family, friends, local community, as well as the wider online community for being so supportive.'

 

AJ, who can be seen on BBC Social and YouTube as well as TikTok has had 3.1 million likes since he joined the platform over two years ago.

 

AJ added: 'It feels great I can now use my large social media following for good.'

 

His wife Hannah says she could not be more proud of her husband and son during these last few months.

 

'This fundraising mission he has set himself helps to distract from the worry and makes him feel he is doing something to help at a time when we are so powerless.

 

'He also gained a knee injury but has refused to give up; the runs take him about 25 minutes every day - usually while I’m in the car with our two sleeping children after lunch.'

 

Their son is now recovering well from the most recent hospital stay, and the family are keeping their fingers-crossed for good news soon.
