Children from Dalintober Primary School and Early Learning Centre (ELC) are a hop, skip and a jump closer to having better playground facilities after raising a third of their fundraising target at one event.
Dalintober Family Partnership, the school’s parent/carer group, hosted a coffee morning at Campbeltown Town Hall earlier this month as part of a project to raise £15,000 for the cause.
In the month leading up to the recent event, tickets were sold for a grand raffle, packed with big-ticket prizes, which was drawn on the day.
Thanks to an amazing response from the community, the fundraiser made £5,088.20 – £4,075 from the raffle, and £1,013.20 from entry fees and proceeds from baking and bottle stalls and a guess the number of sweets in the bag contest.
Attractions at the event included a performance by Dalintober’s school choir and face painting by parent Rachel Taverner.
“We were overwhelmed with the community support for our fundraiser,” said Emma Woods, chairperson of Dalintober Family Partnership.
“We hope to work with the school to create a fun, happy outdoor space that nurtures and encourages play and learning.”
She also said a “huge thank you” to the following businesses for providing prizes for the grand raffle: Machrihanish Holiday Park, Davaar Island, Cadenhead’s, Springbank Distillery, Dunaverty Golf Club, Machrihanish Golf Club, Machrihanish Dunes Golf Club, Portavadie, Inveraray’s George Hotel, The Fyne Den, West Coast Motors, Glen Scotia Distillery and Beinn an Tuirc Distillers.
Thanks were also paid to The Kintyre Larder and Keeping It Local CIC for selling raffle tickets, Campbeltown’s Co-op supermarket for allowing the group to sell tickets, Tesco supermarket for donating coffee, milk and sugar, and everyone who donated baking and bottles.
Thanks to an additional boost from the Co-op Community Fund, the playground project has now raised almost 70 per cent of its initial target, meaning planning can begin.
“We encourage any Dalintober Primary School and ELC families, or any local businesses who would like to get involved with the project, to get in touch,” added Emma.
