Saddell Mill Bridge, which was damaged during the recent Storm Darragh, has been opened to vehicles up to 26 tonnes.
The bridge was previously closed to all traffic – creating a 60-mile diversion for commuters between Saddell and Campbeltown.
Stabilisation work has been carried out and concrete testing confirmed the concrete has cured enough that the bridge is strong enough to support this weight of vehicles under 26 tonnes.
An Argyll and Bute Council spokesperson said: “We can’t confirm when the bridge will fully reopen to all vehicles yet, as we will need to do further testing to the concrete to confirm it can support weights over 26 tonnes.”
Nearby Torrisdale Bridge, which also suffered damage in the storm, is currently restricted to three tonnes.
The council spokesperson added: “We are turning our attention to works on this structure now the Saddell Mill Bridge works are substantially complete.
“This job is more complicated and needs both rock and concrete to support the structure.
“We are expecting the bridge to be able to remain open to vehicles up to three tonnes during the works, as they are all underneath the structure itself.”
