To take the pressure off the main festival, pre-premier dancing competitions were held on Saturday at the Atlantis Leisure Centre with nearly 90 dancers taking part.
The big festival's events and competitions for 2023 will be split between the Corran Halls, Atlantis Leisure Centre and Oban High School.
HIMDF's Marion MacCormick said: "The Highlands & Island Music and Dance Festival was delighted to welcome back our highland dancers to an early date in the calendar for the Pre-premier competition.
"Nearly 90 dancers took part in the competition at the Atlantis Centre. We had dancers from five years old upwards, all of who put on a great exhibition of dancing.
"The festival looks forward to hosting the Scottish Area Finals, the Scottish Choreography Challenge and the Premier competition on April 29 and April 30, along with the piping and drumming, and the Schools Day on April 28."
She added thanks to Argyll & Bute Council, Bid4Oban and the Common Good Fund for remaining stalwart supports of the festival and of its cultural and economic goals for Oban.
