Southend man David McCallum’s dedication to Dunaverty Hall has been recognised as he retires from the committee after 37.5 years.
David served on the committee of both the present village hall, which opened in 2016, and the former hall, which sat on the same site and was demolished to make way for the new building.
To mark his retirement, Dunaverty Hall committee chairman Malcolm Ronald presented David with a photo of himself cutting the first turf for the new hall, along with a bottle of whisky so he can enjoy a wee dram.
David said: “I would like to thank the committee of Dunaverty Hall for their kind gifts for my retiral from the committee.
“The village hall has played a strong part in my life from my early days in Dunaverty Players at the age of 10. I then joined the committee in 1986 and served for 37.5 years and was involved in the new build. I also had the honour of digging the first turf on November 27 2014.
“I could go on – but Southend has one of the best halls in the surrounding areas. I wish the hall and those running it all the best for the future.”
