Plans to convert a former church in Oban town centre into five new flats have been given the go-ahead by council bosses.
The proposal by Gregor Morawski Building Contractor will see the former Free Presbyterian Church in Campbell Street become living quarters.
One expression of support, one objection, and one representation, were received in relation to the plans by Argyll and Bute Council’s planning officers.
Three of the new flats will be at ground floor level with another two at first floor level.
A planning officer said in a handling report: “Overall it is considered that the redevelopment scheme has been sympathetically designed retaining the majority of the arched windows which are an attractive feature of the building.
“The proposal will bring a disused building within the main town centre back into use which is to be welcomed.
“The building as existing does not benefit from any off street car parking provision, instead utilises the existing public car parks and on street parking provision available within the town centre.
“No change to the existing infrastructure serving the building are proposed as part of this application which comprise connections to the public water and drainage systems.
“The proposal is considered to be an appropriate and sympathetic redevelopment of a disused church building within the town centre where it will fit well with the surrounding development which is characterised by a mix of commercial, residential and retail uses.”
