A café being planned to open beside Port Ellen playing fields in the late summer has been granted a provisional premises licence.
Sandra Corson, owner of The Bothy, said that she had been “overwhelmed” by the response from the community to plans for her to open the Islay facility.
Councillors were told of the plans for the licence, and no objections were expressed to a provisional licence for alcohol being granted.
The discussion took place at a meeting of the Argyll and Bute Licensing Board at its meeting on Tuesday June 25.
Ms Corson told the board: “I have been overwhelmed by the response I have had in the community. Everybody is looking forward to it.
“As far as I know, there have been no objections. I currently own a horse box which is used as a premises for serving sandwiches, cakes and coffee.
“I am not yet sure about the completion date, which could be August or September. There is meant to be a handover at the end of August.
“I wish to obtain a provisional premises licence so that everything is in place, and when it opens there are a couple of formalities.”
Licensing standards officer Eric Dearie told the board that the premises licence related to a function room with a licenced bar.
The application was then unanimously agreed by the board.
