Plans for the demolition of a blackhouse on Tiree and the replacement with new accommodation have been recommended for approval despite 25 objections.
Councillors will rule on the application by Liz Maxwell, for a site at ‘Comraich’ in Mannal, which has also attracted 14 expressions of support.
A design statement says: "This proposal includes demolition of the existing house to allow construction of a new dwelling designed with Passivhaus low energy principles.
"The house has been designed in two halves; one to resemble the traditional Tiree Blackhouse and one in a modern style, still referencing some traditional features. The proposal is for a three-bedroom 1.5 story dwelling house, suitable for permanent occupation."
At its August meeting, Tiree Community Council agreed to support the application.
"In this, we are following the community council’s mission statement to grow the resident population of the island. We are also reflecting the view of those who commented and are on the island’s electoral role. These all supported the application."
An Argyll and Bute Council handling report said: “It is the opinion of planning officers that the design proposed for the replacement dwellinghouse pays appropriate regard to the characteristics of the area.”
The application is being considered by the authority’s planning, protective services and licensing committee on September 18.
