This match was not a pretty game to watch with very little football being played by both teams and the first finishing level at 1-1.
Star were to start the brightest and were to open the scoring on five minutess after great wing by Stuart MacLean, beating two defenders and and sending his shot in off the post from six yards.
Chances were few and far between for both sides but it was Elderslie who equalised from a corner.
It was clear that, with the height of Elderslie and the tightness of the pitch, corners and set pieces would be of a great advantage to the home side.
With seven minutes left in the half - and after great work from Kyle Dansons in midfield - Dansons sent the ball through to the ever-busy Stuart MacLean, who was brought down by the keeper for a stonewall penalty.
MacLean took responsibility and drove his shot straight down the middle only for the keeper to make a great save.
The rebound landed at Callum Green’s feet and before he could tap in for his first of the season the centre half managed to get back and thwart his attempt.
In the second half, Red Star struggled with the long ball tactics from the home side and were to go behind on the 55th minute after conceding from yet another corner, much to the delight of the home support.
Red Star made a raft of changes and finally started to create chance after chance; first up was Zach Campbell, who on two occasions hit the target but found the home keeper in good form. Chances also fell to Ruaidhri Green and Stuart MacLean.
Callum Green was up next, hitting a pile driver from 25 yards and forcing the keeper into a fantastic save.
Zach Campbell, Ruaidhri green and George Curran were linking up well and dictating attack after attack but to no avail.
Elderslie were on survival mode and hit star on the break with 10 minutes remaining.
The ball fell to Elderslie’s number 8, who went unchallenged and fired an absolute belter into the top corner leaving Red Star’s young goalkeeper Struan Urquhart with absolutely no chance of getting a hand onto the shot.
The game finished with Elderslie taking the points.
Following the game, the Red Star coaches said: "We were a bit hard on the boys after the match; we wanted more from them but we have to remember their ages as most of the boys range from 16 to early 20s with lots of lads coming up from the youth set up.
"Also the majority of the teams in this league will be bigger and stronger than most of our lads and, coupled with the small, tight pitches, it’s always going to be difficult to defend at times and this is where the coaches need to be able to change things.
"We as coaches will need to take responsibility for this so it’s not all on the lads. All in all we have a great squad of lads who are only just starting out. We can only get better."
