Volunteers and staff at The Community Shop in Lochgilphead were left upset and angry after discovering a theft of vintage spoons this week, leaving just an empty case.
A spokesperson for the charity shop said: “As a non-profit, all the profits from our sales go to help the local community.
“So it’s especially disappointing if we find we suffer from episodes of shoplifting. The way we see it, stealing from us is actually stealing from the whole community because we’re really only here for the benefit of the community.
“There’s no suggestion it was someone struggling, but it’s worth highlighting that for anyone who IS struggling, we can try to support people in various ways without the need to risk getting a criminal record or diverting funds away from the community.
“In the past we’ve donated free clothing, kitchenware and other items to people in need and will continue to help where we can, you just need to talk to us if you’re struggling.
“If we can’t help directly we can often signpost people to appropriate support too.
“However, to look on a positive note hopefully it’s just an isolated incident as on the whole we’re very lucky to have such wonderful support.”
The charity is now considering upgrading its CCTV and changing how it displays stock.
