Hold on to your sides before they split, funny man of stage and TV and teller of unbelievable true travel tales, Dom Joly is coming to Oban.
With an official UK tour done and dusted, 70 gigs under his belt, Dom is packing his travel bags to journey north from his Cotwolds home to Scotland - by popular demand.
"For some reason the last UK tour completely ignored Scotland, nothing to do with me, and I was getting Facebook messages asking ’Do you hate Scotland?’ which I very much don’t so I’m doing this extra tour myself - and because I like nothing more than driving round Scotland!" he told The Oban Times.
In the last few months he jumped at invites to put on shows on Skye and Jura and "absolutely loved it", then he was asked to bring his latest stage offering, a canny combo of two shows in one, to Argyll with gigs coming up in Helensburgh, Dunoon finally reaching an Oban audience on February 15.
Although the Oban gig will be a first for him. visiting the West Coast town is not. There have been stop-overs before and a visit to Tesco when staying on Luing once. There is also the family link - his wife is Canadian but her ancestors were from Scotland, Oban to be precise - Johnstones and MacDougalls.
There is another looser connection. "We called in to Tesco in Oban once, my daughter was born with bright red hair. All the other kids in the store were ginger too - she thought she was home!" joked Dom who is excited about his drive up.
Jokes apart, anyone buying a ticket for the Oban show will be treated to a mix of two of Dom’s shows,
Dom first appeared on our TV screens with Trigger Happy TV, a prime-time Friday night hit for Channel 4 in 2000-4 which went on to be sold in over 50 countries. This year Trigger Happy TV is 25 years old and there is a special announcement about to happen - you might well be among the first to hear all about it if you are at the Oban gig.
