Tarbert AFC coach Jonathan Scott did not have troubles to seek last weekend for the team’s away match to Kilbarchan Thistle in Johnstone.
No fewer than 16 players were unavailable for a variety of reasons including injury, illness and work commitments, leaving the Dookers with just 12 players.
The team was largely made up of teenagers who can all be proud of their performance despite suffering a 4-0 defeat at the hands of the league leaders.
It was no surprise that the home side started the brighter but it was Tarbert who almost took the lead with a terrific strike from Alexander McLean which saw the home goalie push the ball round the post.
Kilbarchan took the lead in the 12th minute when Tarbert lost cheap possession in midfield and a few slick passes later saw the right winger thrash the ball into the net from 10 yards.
They had further chances to double their lead but Finn Scott in the Tarbert goal made two outstanding saves in quick succession to keep it at one nil.
The home side went two up on 43 minutes with an unstoppable shot to give the winger his second goal of the game.
For the fourth game in succession, Tarbert lost a goal in the first five minutes of the second half to go 3-0 down.
To their great credit, the boys never gave up doing their utmost to contain the league leaders who were desperate to add to their goal tally.
The home side went 4-0 up with a scrappy effort and should have added a fifth from the penalty spot but were thwarted by a double save from man of the match Finn Scott in goal.
The youngsters kept trying to do the right things but failed to grab a consolation goal that their efforts deserved.
The coaching staff were delighted with the efforts of the boys and could not praise them highly enough.
There is no game this Easter weekend, with the Dookers returning to action on Saturday April 6, at home to Bearsden AFC.
