An earthquake rocked Oban and the surrounding area last night - with over 50 reports of people being disturbed by the tremor.
The British Geological Survey (BGS) recorded the quake at around 3.03am, which measured 2.2 on the Richter Scale.
The seismic activity was very shallow at only two kilometres deep, and the epicentre was recorded as Glen Lonan, five kilometres east of Oban.
The tremor was felt in Dunbeg, Lismore, Mull, Kerrera, North Connel and as far away as Benderloch.
Despite being a weak event, many reported ’a loud rumble’ which woke them from their sleep.
Reports to BGS said, "it was more the sound of an explosion than a rumble", "there was a violent crack and a bang", "the windows rattled" and "felt and heard rumbling and creaking".
A second quake, which hit around 8.10am this morning, has now been confirmed by experts. It was a magnitude 1.6, also at 2 kilometres deep, and also centred at Glen Lonan.
One witness described hearing what sounded like "a far off explosion".
A third quake quickly followed at 8.27am. This was a much smaller occurrence, measuring just 0.5 on the Richter scale.
There have been no further reports this morning.
