Easter Extravaganza lined up at Oban Fèis 

Clàrsach, chanter, highland dancing, drama and film-making are just some of what's on offer at this year's Easter Fèis in Oban.

 

Bagpipes, piano, guitar, pipe band drumming, percussion, step dancing,  art and craft and shinty are also on the list.

 

Preparations are well under way for the annual Easter Fèis from Monday April 3 to  Thursday April 6 at Oban Primary Campus.

 

The four-day event  of daytime tuition in traditional music, dance, Gaelic song and drama, plus evening events is set to attract around 150 youngsters aged eight to 18 years from the Lorn area, as well as visitors from further afield, and organisers are busy dealing with applications for the event.

 

Additional events will include an evening music session at The Rockfield Centre on Monday April 3 and annual a Family Cèilidh on Tuesday  April 4 at the Argyllshire Gathering.

 

A tutor team of 30 experienced traditional musicians from across Scotland has been brought together for the Easter Fèis. Many of these tutors return to teach in Oban each year and have just finished taking part in Glasgow’s Celtic Connections Festival.

 

Places are limited and cost early bird rate £80 if booked by Sunday February 18 and then £95  until the final deadline for applications on Sunday March 5. There are free places for third and additional children from one family as well as some supported places courtesy of Argyll Community Housing Association (ACHA).

"The Easter Fèis is a great way to get a taste of Gaelic, try out different instruments, learn new skills and make new friends. You don’t need your own instrument to take part, as these are available from Fèis Latharna if required, and our Saturday classes provide an opportunity to continue learning following the Fèis itself.”
