Bellevue Farm in Blackwaterfoot has been awarded the highest tier of eco-friendly tourism accreditation after working to minimise its impact on the local environment.
Sixth generation farmers Ailsa and Donald Currie run the farm, holiday cottages and their tour business with their two sons Donald junior and Andrew.
Their commitment to the environment is evident in all aspects of the business. From providing natural habitats for wildlife and insects to using unbleached and recycled toilet paper in their toilets, the family also work with the environment to the fore.
As part of the accreditation process, theu assessed every aspect of their business and altered some processes to be more sustainable. This included introducing green measures for managing their land and livestock, sustainable purchasing, dealing with waste and water and energy consumption, along with reducing their carbon footprint and working with the community in line with circular economy policies.
A Bellevue Farm spokesperson said: “We’re absolutely delighted we have achieved a gold award for Green Tourism.
“This has taken a lot of work behind the scenes looking at our systems and procedures to ensure we’re doing the best we can to protect our planet. It’s been a great effort by our wonderful team at Bellevue.”
The Green Tourism awards certification programme recognises the commitment of tourism businesses actively working to become more sustainable. Their bronze/silver/gold awards are acknowledged worldwide as an indicator of good environmentally-friendly practice and a hallmark of ‘green quality’.
