The Gibsons told the Lochaber Times this week they were sad their journey at the iconic hotel on the shore of Loch Shiel was ending but that they had enjoyed their time immensely.
The couple added: 'We thank Jane MacFarlane and her husband, Andreas Glasow, for giving us this opportunity, our many loyal customers and guests for the support they have given us, our friends, the Glenfinnan community and the many members of staff over the years, many of them still great friends.
'A massive thank you to Fiona Currie, our assistant manager and friend, who has been with us, supported, laughed and cried with us over the last 20 years. She is the longest-serving member of staff here having worked at the hotel for 25 years.
'We have decided to leave hotel life but not hospitality and hope to take on our own little business venture in 2023.'
The hotel has been in the ownership of the MacFarlane family for more than half a century and current owner Ms MacFarlane said it will take its time to determine in what form to continue the business, which could mean a later start to the 2023 season.
Even during the difficult Covid pandemic lockdowns, the Gibson family found creative ways to keep supporting the community, including providing boxed groceries and takeaways.
Ms MacFarlane commented: 'Duncan and Manja will be sorely missed by us, the many loyal, long-standing guests and the village community. We wish them the best of luck in their new endeavour.'
