Can you make a better journey? Could you leave the car behind, where possible and make a shorter journey by cycling, walking or taking the bus?
This summer, Argyll and Bute Council is encouraging more people to try to make a small change, that will benefit their health, wallet, and the planet, by taking part in the better journeys photo competition with the chance to win a £50 Love Local gift card.
With summer here, the longer days and lighter nights provide more opportunities to enjoy outdoor activities. It’s an ideal time to explore the great outdoors and make memorable moments.
But approximately 60 per cent of short journeys, between one and two miles, are made by car.
And while it is not always possible to leave the car at home every time, making small changes—even once a week—can greatly improve health, finances, and the environment.
Air pollution remains the UK’s biggest environmental health threat and Argyll and Bute Council is asking people to consider reducing car use where possible, to help create a more climate-friendly Argyll and Bute.
And to encourage such change the council is asking people to take a photograph of their commute - whether by bus, enjoying a family bike ride, or opting for a scenic walk instead of driving.
Take a photo and you could win a £50 Argyll and Bute gift card with two £25 gift cards for the runners-up.
Email your image to photos@argyll-bute.gov.uk or upload them to the better journeys website www.argyll-bute.go.uk/better-journeys
Include your name, contact details and a brief description of the photo including the location. The competition is now open and closes on August 5 2024.
