Tarbert is surely the festival capital of Argyll, so it’s no wonder that the community marks the festive season with a special evening of fun. The Tarbert Christmas Light Switch On, at 6.30pm on Friday 29th November is one of the highlights of the busy season, attracting locals and visitors alike.
At the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony, Tarbert’s Seafood Queen and her Princesses will have the honour of switching on the lights. The primary school choir will bring the festive cheer, filling the air with beloved Christmas carols.
No Christmas light switch on is complete without a visit from Santa, of course. The children will walk along from the marquee at the Harbour with their lanterns to gather at the Christmas tree. Hot chocolate and glow sticks will be on sale from the Parent Council stall.
Aside from the festival, a stroll along Tarbert’s scenic harbour is a great way to soak in the festive spirit. The picturesque views and the twinkling lights casting reflections on Loch Fyne create a magical ambience perfect for a winter walk. Let the little ones explore the castle ruins and relive dramatic moments in history, when Robert the Bruce himself used this as a royal fortress.
Tarbert has cosy wee cafés to coorie in with hot chocolates, leaving you feeling a bit smug because you have escaped the mobs at the mall. Because, like something out of an uplifting holiday film, Tarbert really is the picture perfect spot for a family getaway this festive season.
