Bird flu experts are testing a dead sea-eagle washed up on a beach near Oban.
The bird found on Tralee Beach on January 15 was reported to NatureScot.
The eagle’s carcass was picked up by the agency and transported to Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) for avian flu checks.
If it does not test positive for the disease, SRUC will attempt to work out the cause of its death.
But NatureScot says because of its poor condition when found, it may not be possible to ever determine the cause.
It had been washed onto the shore after being in the sea for a while.
"There is no indication of a wildlife crime," said a NatureScot spokesperson.
