Families flock to Wee Toon Easter walk

More than 300 children hopped, skipped and jumped around Campbeltown on Easter Sunday, as they searched for clues on the Wee Toon Easter Walk.

 

In the weeks leading up to the hunt, organiser Mandy Robertson, development worker at youth support group The Hub, distributed 240 wooden eggs to children in the community to be decorated to line the route, though only 130 were returned.

 

These led youngsters and their families from Campbeltown Ferry Terminal to the former paddling pool, then up round Woodland Drive and Limecraigs Road before heading back to the ferry terminal via the Cutting – a total distance of around 1.8km (around a mile).

 

Throughout the walk, the youngsters kept their eyes peeled for a set of markers to stamp their sheets and their efforts were rewarded at the end with chocolate eggs and treats.

 

A new feature this year, a highlight for many, was a photobooth prop featuring the Easter bunny and a newly hatched chick.

 

'It went really well,' Mandy said after the event. 'It was good to see so many taking part and there were lots of visitors to the town too, which was great.

 

'Huge thanks to The Jolly Monday Show and its supporters who purchased football cards to raise £500 towards the cost; The Hub contributed the rest. This helped purchase the chocolate eggs and goodie bags that were given out.

 

'Special thanks too to Cameron and Kimmy McLellan, who made our photo prop, and Heather Mauchline of Peaches and Dreams, who painted our 10 clues.

 

'Thanks, finally, to everyone who took part to make it another successful event.'
