A family’s seven year plan to transform Bridge of Orchy’s old school into a new and eat-drink-and-stay venue is set to become a reality.
The plans include six pods and hot tubs and he hopes to be up and running for mid-to-end of August, with the rest of the site completed in the months to follow.
Building warrants to allow building work to start on the main buildings are on their way, but because of bat protection orders, work on the roof of the old school cannot begin until the start of November.
Charile said: "We are keeping the old school’s facade because we know it’s iconic to the area. We believe the building was gifted to the people of the area in the 1800s by a landowner. It would’ve been easier, and probably more cost effective, to build from scratch but we thought it was important to keep that connection."
Inside the former school there will be a bar and café, added on will be outside decking, and to the rear will be accommodation for staff, who so far are Charlie, his wife Nicola and their daughter Isla.
The project has had the full support of the Friends of the West Highland Way and Charlie says he is looking forward to it becoming a welcome stop-off or stay spot for not just walkers and holidaymakers, but for locals too.
